DJ Rashad – 10/9/79 – 4/26/14

There are times in our lives that we stumble across a style of music, or rather we stumble upon a new take on a particular style of music that we have already come to love but this time it comes equipped with new bells and whistles that you’ve never heard before. It pulls us in. It resonates with your being creating a feeling of discovery, a freshness, a rejuvenation for the body and soul.

Enter DJ Rashad. Born Rashad Hanif Harden he was at the forefront of creating a new style of electronic music that was unheard of, a style better known now as Footwork. With more beats per minute that you would like to keep track of, his music had a sense of chaos but in the same arena an overall sense of tranquility.

He paved the way for others to follow suit and keep his legacy and this new genre of music alive. DJ Spinn, a childhood friend who Rashad met during homeroom in high school, is just one of these people keeping the genre alive.

Rashad Hanif Harden was found dead in an apartment on April 26, 2014 in Chicago, but his memory lives on.

Here’s to DJ Rashad. Creating chaos in a most beautiful way for anyone entering the gates of heaven. R.I.P.

Another piece of the puzzle

Deerhunter shared a new video for a song today title Living My Life from the new album that will be released this Friday, October 16, 2015. This new release will mark their 7th album. As singer Bradford Cox put it, “The idea was to have a formless visual that does not conform to the overwhelming cleverness and narrative ambition of most modern videos. Instead we have a sometimes pointless, sometimes ridiculous, and sometimes hypnotically beautiful mess of images and rhythm.”

Here are some other pieces of the album so far.
